We want to share here two additional endorsement details. First, we have endorsed voting AGAINST the Constitutional Amendmenton this year’s ballot. Amending North Carolina’s Constitution “to provide that only a citizen of the United States” may vote will not change current law, if adopted. In our view, it stokes fears about immigrants and undermines public confidence in elections. Second, for Guilford County voters, we have endorsed voting FOR a “local sales and use tax … of one-quarter percent (0.25%)” because its revenue will further fund public education in our county. If passed, Guilford County’s combined sales tax will increase to 7%. As a result, a consumer would spend an additional 25 cents on every $100 purchase. Non-prepared food/groceries, prescriptions, motor vehicles, and gasoline are among sales exempt from the tax increase. Currently, Davidson, Forsyth, Randolph, and Rockingham counties levy a 7% combined sales tax; Alamance and Stokes counties levy a 6.75% tax.
