Advocating for Progressive Issues

About the PAC

The primary purpose of the PAC is to influence the election of local, state, and national candidates who will best support and promote progressive policies and civil rights. In addition, consideration is given to a candidate’s past and current positions on issues supporting the business and social interests of Replacements, Ltd. (which includes fostering an open community in which all individuals are free to participate and serve without discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity) and the strategic viability of the candidate.

After compiling and evaluating responses, we publish a Voter Guide, which is widely distributed. While candidates may not ultimately vote on many of the issues addressed in the survey, their influence as an opinion leader in the community is very valuable.

A note about process:

For each election, the REPLACEMENTS LTD PAC sends surveys which ask for candidates’ views concerning issues of concern to us, including lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) issues.

Surveys are sent to all candidates in Guilford, Alamance, Rockingham, and Randolph Counties.

We obtain information about candidates:
–From their responses to our questionnaire.
       –From additional information they provide.
–From information in the public domain.
–From our personal knowledge or relationship with a candidate.

When making a decision about an endorsement, we consider a candidate’s position on LGBT equality, their position on issues affecting our business, a candidate’s qualities and activities in line with our core values, and what we consider to be the strategic viability of a candidate.

The PAC makes its decision about who is the best candidate without regard to the candidate’s sexual orientation or gender identity. We strive to select the best candidate for the entire community on issues of concern.
